Dallas-Fort Worth is now an employee’s market.
DFW has become a “hot bed” for companies who want to scale and grow their businesses due to the business-friendly climate, area incentives, and recent political moves. Thus, competition for talent has skyrocketed entering 2017 for all companies looking to expand their business. Here are a few tips to keep your business in front of the competition when it comes to attracting and retaining talent.
• Communicate Your Purpose: Create a company culture that is true to your purpose. People want to be a part of something they have confidence in as well as something they can believe in! Voice your company’s purpose beyond profits and only hire talent who align with your purpose first and foremost. At Burnett’s Staffing, our goal is to make a difference in the life of another, every day. We only onboard people who share our belief and passion of helping others make life-changing career moves.
• People Over Profit: Connect with your team on a personal level and back it up with your actions. Invest in training and take care of your team. As a result, your team will take care of you over the long haul.
• Competitive Compensation: The adage of hiring fewer people but pay them more is never truer in today’s market. Make sure what you can afford to pay (total compensation plus benefits) is at or above market average. Otherwise, it may be best to wait.
• Be Proactive, Not Reactive: When you have an opening, recruit! Spreading the word in the marketplace that you are hiring is the best option versus sitting back and waiting to see who applies to your job posting. 1) Get creative and find where like-purposed people spend their time. 2) Use your current team’s network! When you have a great place to work, it’s easy for your staff to promote to people in their network about your opening. Remember, good people know other good people.
The top companies are always looking for and hiring top talent even when there may not be an official opening. They cannot afford NOT to hire the right person. Bottom Line: Talent is hard to find. When you find talent, be sure and move on them before the competition does.
Good luck,
BB
