If you’re leading a workforce, you’ve probably put some thought into what kind of boss you want to be. Maybe you feel like you’ve been too stuffy in the office and you’d like to be more of a fun boss, but at the same time you don’t want to sacrifice the productivity of your company. If that’s the case, here are a few ideas for ways to bring fun into your office without losing the momentum you’ve built:
Take everyone out to lunch. Lunch is usually everyone’s favorite part of the day, if for no other reason than it’s nice to get away from your desk. Why not get out of the office together and try a new restaurant near your workplace? New experiences bond people together, so in addition to treating everyone, you’ll also be strengthening your team.
Make your office homey. Most offices have a water cooler and a coffee pot, but have you considered adding a snack station? Or a library where employees can exchange books? Is your decor all fluorescent lighting and white walls, or have you decorated a bit? If you have to spend eight hours a day in a space, why not make it as comfortable as possible? That way people will be happy to show up in the morning, and ready to get to work.
Throw a party. A party isn’t productive, but it’s not so outrageous that it could get your staff off track. Find something to celebrate, whether it’s a staff member’s work anniversary or a milestone for your company, and schedule some time in the workday for everyone to relax. For just the cost of a cake and some light refreshments, you can boost everyone’s spirits and have everyone working happily once it’s over.
